BASKETBALL FINALS
Scorpius Vs Pegasus
The finals saw the Pegasus team at its best with an awesome game by Dr.Sumana Kar..The Pegasians managed to take an early lead thanks to Dr.Sumana’s baskets and Jobin and Dr.Tims coordination. With Pegasian Dr.Pravish(Capt.) taking on Nishant(Capt.), the Scorpion scoreboard was crawling at snail speed. The Scorpion Nishant with an injured arm put up a very good show scoring 17points out off the team score of 21 points (Way to go man…J).The Scorpions Bhargavi and Bayan also played well but they all were no match for the Pegasian stars. The Pegasians won the tournament with a final score of 40-21.We would like to extend our thanks to Mr.Koshy and Mr.Kobe (Ashish) from JSSMC for refereeing the match.

Delphinus Vs Aquila (06-04-09)
The game was totally one sided with Delphinians showing their might. The Aquilian players got scared of the Delphinian line up with star players like Dr.Zubeir ,Mahantesh(Perio-DH) and Sharath(Cons-LT) on their side. The Aquilians tried to put up a fight with Chandan trying his best, but then the Aquilians were overpowered by the veteran Delphinians. Final Score Delphinians-54 and Aquila-14

Aquila Vs Scorpius (08-04-09)
The scorpions Nithin’s and Harshvardan’s excellent game got them the lead in the very beginning. The Scorpions stung the Aquilians and all their efforts to win the game went in vain. The Aquilians were left panting with no answer for the Scorpion sting .The Scorpius emerged victorious with scoreboard reading 37-14.

Art Of Dental Materials
Talent combined with academics. The setting time of plaster of paris and the working time of the impression compound was put to test on 04-04-09.Snowmen frolicking in snow, Ketchup being poured over pizza frozen in time, torto pond with turtles, icecream with wafers all materialized from dental materials. We appreciate the talent of the participants who in spite of shortage of materials, managed and came up with very innovative ideas. Kalhan and Jean (Vulpeculians) replayed for us the WTC 9/11 while Gunjan and Anshu (Aquilians) gave us a snake and ladder board to play with. A ‘VIBGYOR’ snail was gifted by Dr.Metteena and Dr.Jane Paulin and a serene pond by Dr.Mahalakshmi Dr.Anu. Dr.Teertesh and Dr.Anupama made a wind mill which was so powerful it blew their house to one side.

S.O.S
S.O.S turned out to be a funfilled event and left our judges and the audience(which came out in a good number) holding their stomachs. There were many celebrities aboard the sinking ship. George Vivek Bush used his amazing accent and floored the audience. Nishant playing The King Khan was questioned about K.K..K…Karan. Amrit aka Rakhi Sawant was charged with wearing his/her(?J?) children’s clothes ….The lipstick and the leg crossing will not leave our minds for a long time Amrit J!! Vijay Mallya enacted by Archana boasted of being a connoisseur of wine, horses and calendars. Our gangster Dawood Kalhan Ibrahim gave a piece of his mind to the other celebrities and forced the Captain to give him a life jacket. The star of the show was Lalu Amit Prasad whose one liners left the audience in splits……good job(hurr hurr J J)

Laughter-The best Medicine [Tickle ur funny bone]
Humour is so central to the human adventure that its surprising how little attention science has paid it people may make different noises and faces, laugh at different intensities but the commands human brain give out during a guffaw are a recipe followed precisely.
Face time:When we laugh as many as 15 small muscles sqeeze our faces into a smile this gives our face a happy glow.
Eye Have it:If the laugh is vigorous enough our tear ducts can activate.Studies show that tears, whether happy or sad may reduce symptoms of stress.
Mouth off :Of course , our mouths open to let out thae “HA-HA” rhythmic blasts of vocalized air .In addition studies have found that after laughing episodes saliva has higher levels of immunoglobulins, suggesting that laughter may raise our immune function.
Vocal point:Our vocal equipment has to roll up its sleeves to produce our high-pitched hysteria. The diaphragm pumps down and up ,filling the lungs and then blasting air out of them up through the voice box to produce laugh because the lungs are exchanging much more air than normal they enrich the blood with oxygen
Pain Reliver:Whether in our extremities or up in our brains, laughter seems to have an analgesic effect. It increases our tolerance to pain.
Belly Laughs: A hearty laugh can cause us to double over and tense all our major muscle groups for minutes at a time .Thus laughter is exercise
The heart rate and blood pressure go up while you’re laughing , but then they fall down below your baseline afterwards, the same as with exercise

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Failure is not necessarily missing the target,
But aiming too low
Know your Stars-Scorpius (IInd Years)
It is said that Orion, the gigantic son of Poseidon and Eurayle, claimed he could kill all of the wild animals of the world if he so desired. The goddess Gaia, protector of Earth and all its creatures, became alarmed by Orion's boast. Fearing he might one day act on it, she sent a scorpion to kill Orion.
The rest of the legend then splits into various story lines. In one, the oversized Scorpion managed to sting Orion on the heel (marked by the blue star Rigel), after a great battle. Gaia then took pity on Orion and placed him in the sky as a constellation, setting the Scorpion at the opposite end of the heavens so that they could never battle again. Scorpius rises just as Orion sets, and in this, some see Orion forever fleeing its fatal sting. In another, the Scorpion was sent to kill Orion and, due to its small size and great stealth, managed to sting him quickly and kill him. In both of these stories, it is said that the great healer Asclepius ground the scorpion under his foot and then brought Orion back to life using herbal healing methods he had learned from observing a snake revive its brother.
In a variant story line Orion had been given the gift of wading through oceans as if they were shallow ponds, and thus he strode away from the Scorpion who could not follow. Unfortunately for Orion, this gave the god Apollo, who was unhappy that his sister Artemis had fallen in love with Orion, the chance he had been waiting for. Apollo saw Orion enter the sea from a great distance and, calling to his sister, taunted her by saying she could not hit the distant black speck with one of her arrows. She quickly unsheathed her bow and hit her target, not realizing it was the head of Orion. In her sorrow, she placed him in the sky as a constellation.
THE STAR WARS (RESULTS)

Cricket (28/03/09)
Pegasus (Interns ) Vs Delphinus+Cygnus (PG staff+ Ist yr)
The Two time Cricket champions ,Pegasus, seemed to be weaving their magic this time too by wining the match. The interns won the toss and decided to bat first , ending their twenty overs with a score of 170 runs .The Delphinus went in to bat next , with Dr.Mansoor thrashing the ball in all direction towards the boundary. But the Delphinians seemed to lose their game once Dr.Mansoor’s wicket was taken. They eventually ended up making only 124 runs.We would like to congratulate The Man of the match Pegasian Dr.Nagraj for his half century & also Pegasian Aakash for his brilliant fielding.

Basketball (30/03/09)
Pegasus(Interns) Vs Aquila (IIIrd years)
The Pegasus clamped the Aquilian wings by winning the match 34-11(What a margin!!).For the Aquilians ,after the first quarter everything seemed to go wrong. The Aquilian scoreboard was inching at snail pace whereas the pegasians seemed to be unstoppable, scoring baskets one after the other.
Throwball (30/03/09)
Aquila Vs Pegasus
The Aquilus displayed a great game. The Pegasians fought back with great effort ,with Dr.Sumana trying her level best. The Aquilian line up, with Bidappa , Rini , Kitty and Fathima on their side scared even the Pegasian Cheering Squad. At the end our poor Pegsians were crushed by Aquilian Giants. The Aquilians , won the game with two straight sets (15-9, 15-5)

Cricket Finals (29/03/09)
Aquila Vs Pegasus
It’s history in JSSDC cricket -the Pegasus team has emerged victorious for the 3rd consecutive year .The team has set a mark by being victorious in every match played in the last three years. The finals saw the Pegasians having a close fight with the Aquilians. The match witnessed excellent bowling by Nikhil ,Wisam and Dinesh (Aquilians) due to which the Pegasian batting average came down, but with some good batting by Pegasian’s Raghu, Ananjan and Aakash the total score was dragged upto 119 runs. In the second innings the Aquilians were adrift by Pegasian Raghu’s impressive balling, taking the wicket of Dinesh in the very first ball of the innings followed by wickets of other key players Nikhil and Wisam. With Chandan and Lohith’s good bating the score card was reading 106 at the end of 19 overs. In the last over with Kaushik Pai on strike facing Dr.Pauls balling, tension rose among the crowd as well as the players with both the teams having equal chances of becoming the Champs. Kaushik Pai with three consecutive 2s, led the team score to 112 at 19.3 overs and in the next ball increased the pressure on Pegasus by hitting a boundary taking the score to 116 (19.4 overs). But then it is experience that matters, Dr.Paul the luckiest captain in the league with no history of defeat emerged victorious this time too by 1 run at the end of the match. The Man of the match was awarded to Raghu Kumar (Pegasus) [Runs -38 ,Wickets-3]. As we already said, the pegasians are good at overcoming any threat or obstacle…J

After thought
Its final that IPL is going to be held in South Africa .The Indian Premier league is going places with the essence of promoting our domestic cricket and players. The decision taken by the IPL committee has opened new doors for our local boys. In one place we will have our boys playing in international grounds along with international players which would provide them global recognition and appreciation, on the other hand most of us will be disappointed for not being able to watch and cheer our heroes playing in our soil due to upcoming elections which has raised security concerns. We are sure our players will have lot of support in South Africa and the next season our Indian Premier league will be back in our soil with a Bang

The match saw the PG & staff Cheerleading squad objecting to every decision made by the referee. Dr.Amit(Delphinian) barged his way in to referee without any knowledge of the game. Dr.Amit’s decisions also could not save the Delphinians who lost against the Scorpians 15-0, 15-1

Pegasus(Interns) vs Aquila (IIIrd yrs) (25-03-09)
Defending Champs, the Pegasians, who were not lucky enough this year ,finally broke the jinx by winning this match 2-0 .Dr.Arun Paul managed to woo the crowd with his impressive dribbling skills. The first goal was scored in the last minutes of the first half and the other in the second half ,both by Pegasian forward Dr.Syed Rafi. Pegasians discovered talent in football in their fellow player Dr.Sushaen very late , as it was the last match in the league.Good football skills were displayed by Kanad ,Wisam and Chandan

Finals Vulpecula Vs Aquila (26-03-09)
Well…everyone out there, if you have missed this match you have missed everything ,coz this match witnessed the best performances by both the team members and with the best defense ,the best free kicks, the best tackles ,best penalty shoots. This was indeed a match well dominated by the Aquilians. With a good game from Riyaz , Krishnanand and Shaheen ,the Aquilian strikers supported by Kanad & Chandan ,the Midfielders Aquilians had a ball possession of more than 65%.The Vulpeculian striker Saleh was not able to breach the Aquilian defence cover with Chindhan and Kaushik falling on to the ball and not leaving their hold on to it. Incredible dribbling was shown by Kundu ‘Da’ .The game went on to extra time and then to penalty shootout with scores 0-0 as both the teams didn’t manage to score goal even in extra time.
The goal keepers were Munir (Vulpeculians) and Kanad (Aquilians). The score went on to 4-2 at the end penalty shootout making the Vulpecula the tournament champions.

It was definitely a game worth watching ,with both the teams playing equally well.Though the Scorpians won the game in two straight sets, it was such a close match that both the sets were dragged to 26 points as both the teams were tied at 24 points. All the players were tensed but more so was scorpion Nithin. He was heard screaming and lashing out on teammate Chittaswaroop threatening to belt him if he didn’t play properly(pappa Chitta L ).Scorpian Rinkoo too played a great game .The Delphinians also had put up a great show but in vain.

That Vulpeculians had separate judging for the painting competition with Srihas being the judge. With his expertise(!?) ,he examined the paintings along with Munir Ali . Sorry dude, Aurora2k9 committee prides itself on being impartial and if any problems please sort it out face to face…
That Vulpeculian Cheerleaders were spotted bribing Dr.Pravish V., the line referee for the final football match. It was heard that even offer for a dinner in Regalis was there for calling out fouls of the opponents.
That Dr.Disha, referee for throwball match was probably bribed by the PG’s to make decision in favour of them on the throwball court J J J

Come and book your seats for the finals of PEGASUS T20(Ticket price-Your Presence) as its going to be the war out there, in the cricket field. It’s the Pegasus the interns (the defending champs) fighting for their hattrick gold with Aquila the agile 3rd years
Pegasus, with experienced player on their side has displayed fantastic cricketing through out the tournament. With their Stars Dr.Arun Paul ,Malavalli ,Ameen and Raghu they have a strong batting line up with great batting average. Adding on to it is the bowling skills of Dr.Anji , Dr. Sumeeth and Dr.Ragevendra.
Aquila, the agile 3rd years have fought their way to the finals. They have proved to many that its not experience that matters but it’s the game that matters. With good batsmen like Chandan, Nikhil and Wisam on their side the Aquilians may pose a threat for the Pegasians. Good bowling skills of Aquilians also can be a obstacle for the Pegasians.
But Pegasians are famous for overcoming any obstacle or threats…..

After thought
A certain incident made headlines a fortnight ago. It showcased to the world that the so called ‘tolerant nature of Indians’ has become a farce.
Due to the protests of rightwing politicians, a filmmaker could not install a a statue of ‘Charlie Chaplin’ near a temple in Udupi because ‘he is not an Indian and a Christian!!’.
Nothing can be more outrageous and absurd.
Such incidents of intolerance have surprisingly been repeated in the past couple of years with alarming frequency. Indians all of a sudden cannot look beyond the other person’s ethnic origin, colour, religion or caste.
Whether it is the MNS slogan of ‘Maharashtra for the Marathis’, the brutal attack against Christians in Mangalore and Orissa, the Godhra riots or the exile of M.F. Hussain. All point towards a gross failure of the Indian social structure.
We as Indians need to open our minds and come to terms with the fact that the world is moving forward and we cannot let the petty politics of the right and votebank politics of the past guide us anymore.
Charlie Chaplin, the funniest man ever in world cinema had always mocked at prejudices and fascist tendencies. His origin and religion never mattered and in a peaceful society nor should yours and mine.
It’s high time we realize that.

Football

18/03/09 Delphinus+ Cygnus vs pegasus

This game will be remembered more for the injuries which plagued the players like Dr. Shekhar and Dr Anil. (and also because of Dr. Ananjan dragging his weight around the field J). Delphinus played well to eventually win the match by 2-1, of course with a little help from the referee, who was having a snooze fest on the ground and misread a clear offside. A special mention to Dr. Anil Biradar for his unwaivering sportsman’s spirit. The Pegasian goal was scored by our Star player Dr. Paul . Dr. Mansoor and Dr. Sanjeet scored a goal each for the Delphinus.

19/03/09 Vulpecula vs Pegasus

What a game!!! With both the teams being equally tough (who are we kidding! ), the Pegasian Dr. Paul, was unable to surpass the moving ‘Eiffel Tower’ Muneer. The Vulpeculans Saleh scored the first goal and the second was scored by Kundu. Dr. Pravish( Pegasian Goalie) managed to fly over the goal posts and held on to some stunners. But the score remained 2-0 with Vulpeculans emerging as the stars.

20/03/09 Delphinus+ Cygnus vs scorpius

The first half was an equal play with a good game by the Scorpions. But the Delphinus emerged winners with 1-0, the lone goal scored by Dr. Mansoor.

A little bird told me
That Dr. Anil Biradar suffers from a serious newsletter deficiency syndrome
and is seen hankering our poor interns for it. How about shifting the responsibility to him…. What say guys?? J J

Sandeep was last heard advising the players on the football field on how to get their names on the newsletter instead of how to get the ball in the post... J

GUT SPEAK
The terrorist within us
The Mumbai 26/11 carnage has left us shocked and devastated. It has derailed and attacked everything we stood for, uprooted our deepest beliefs and awakened us to the reality that peace, stability and our freedom cannot be taken for granted. It has not only shattered “the spirit of mumbaikars” but all of the Indians as one nation.
The fact we allowed a bunch of bloodthirsty youngsters, barely out of their teens to hold a city to ransom and take innocent lives in the carnage has not only fractured our self esteem but also caught us napping, our ill preparation and ineptness which has been nurtured all these years by our ‘Chalta hai’ attitude – our anthem for all these years.

The spine chilling tragedy has enraged us and made us acknowledge that there is indeed something seriously wrong with our security system and with us as a nation. It’s high time we come out of our passivity and stop watching our democracy being diseased and paralyzed by terrorism.

As responsible citizens we have to strike at the root of the disease by being an active part of the political process and not just by keeping vigil and demanding answers. The first step towards it would be exercising our right to vote in the upcoming elections. JAI HO

The Editorial board would like to thank Ms. Sumitra and Mrs. T. Kanaka Rekha for their cooperation.
